The Matrix Resurrections is scheduled to premiere in theaters and on HBO Max Wednesday, Dec. 22.

The first action-packed trailer for the most recent addition to one of the most influential and iconic genre franchises is here.

The film series is in the competent hands of one of the original trilogy’s creators, as this installment was directed and co-written by Lana Wachowski, who previously helmed the first three movies alongside her sister, Lilly. And Lana’s not the only familiar face back for another adventure inside the malevolent simulation powered by human batteries. Matrix alumni Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith are all reprising Neo, Trinity, and Niobe, respectively.

However, things have changed since our last visit; Neo has somehow reverted to his ordinary life as Thomas Anderson and can’t remember any of the epic adventures he went on in the last three films. He’s brought back into the virtual fray by what looks to be a younger version of Morpheus (Candyman’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).

The film’s supporting class also includes.  Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Eréndira Ibarra, Priyanka Chopra, Andrew Caldwell, Brian J. Smith, Ellen Hollman, and Christina Ricci.

The Matrix Resurrections is scheduled to premiere in theaters and on HBO Max Wednesday, Dec. 22.
