Contrary to earlier reports Moon director
Duncan Jones won’t be directing Escape from the Deep, based on a
true story about a crew that escaped a sunken submarine, next. Instead he
will be directing Mute, which has been described as sci-fi
thriller/mystery film.
The plot involves a mute bartender goes up against his city's gangsters
in an effort to find out what happened to his missing partner.
The movie will “definitely be bigger than Moon, probably
something up to $25 million,” according to director Jones, son of rock
star David Bowie.
“Moon is about alienation and isolation. Mute will have a
different vibe. It's not about one actor on their own, it's an ensemble
piece.”
Director Jones has said Mute will be similar to
Blade Runner, of
which he is a huge fan, in tone.

seen Moon yet!]
Although it isn’t a sequel, Moon star Sam Rockwell makes a cameo
appearance in Mute:
“I wanted to get Sam to come and do a cameo in the next film. We're
going to do a cameo where he does an epilogue scene that explains what
happened to Sam when he got back to earth [at the end of
Moon]. That's going to take place in the next
film.”
[End plot spoilers!]
The movie is set to start filming in 2010 in Berlin and several
locations including Studio Babelsberg.
