The film will be made by DreamWorks and it is
apparently Steven Spielberg's own involvement that made this project go
through.
"Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite
stories," Spielberg said. "It's a genre that has arrived, and we
enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks."
No production date or other details are known at this
stage.
Ghost in the Shell is set in the
not-too-distant future, when an unnamed government uses lifelike cyborgs
or "enhanced" humans for undercover work. One of the key cyborgs is The
Major, Motoko Kusanagi, who resembles a cross between The Terminator and a
Playboy centerfold. She finds herself caught up in a tangled web of
espionage and counterespionage as she searches for the mysterious
superhacker known as "The Puppet Master."
WE SAY
Yet another Hollywood remake. The very idea of remakes, especially of
movies that are pretty good to begin with like this one, fills us with dread
