Hulu has dropped the first trailer for its horror show Castle Rock, and it’s full of reminders of King’s other works. It begins with a shot of the fog-shrouded little town and continues from there in suitably weird and creepy manner that’s designed to pique the viewer’s interest. The trailer features appearances by Bill Skarsgard and Sissy Spacek, both veterans of earlier adaptations of King’s work
In fact, Hulu’s horror-show appears to be an effort that is more-or-less a collage of King’s previous stories, a psychological thriller that includes lots of spine-chilling environs and some of King’s favorite things, like spooky psych wards, and rabid dogs.
Here’s Hulu’s synopsis of the series: A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The series stars André Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Sissy Spacek, Bill Skarsgård, Jane Levy and Scott Glenn. Sam Shaw & Dustin Thomason developed the project for television and serve as executive producers along with J.J. Abrams, Ben Stephenson, and Liz Glotzer. Castle Rock is from Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
You can catch the series—which also stars Moonlight‘s Andre Holland—on Hulu July 25.
