Casting off the mortal coil is an inevitable part of the deal of getting to experience life here on good old Mother Earth. For some of us though, it involved getting an alien symbiote implanted so he could soldier on and make a difference in a troubled universe. At least, that was the story of the character Jacob Carter/Selmak, the character played by fan-favorite Carmen Argenziano. Selmak was one of my favorite recurring characters on the show; Argenziano breathed life into a role that got often employed as the bearer of exposition, despite this, he was a capable and enjoyable character actor enough to make the part popular while adding to the enjoyment of the series as a whole, on a regular basis.
With more than 200 film and television appearances under his belt, Argenziano boasted a prolific acting career that spanned almost 50 years, seven of which he spent in his most popular role of Jacob Carter/Selmak in the hit series Stargate SG-1. Argenziano played hundreds of TV roles, including appearances in the popular series “Cheers,” “Melrose Place,” “ER,” “CSI: NY,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “The Mentalist,” “Criminal Minds” and the 1974 hit film “The Godfather, Part II” where he made an appearance as a button man.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa A. Angelocci, and his three children.
