Preacher Season 3 is now in production for AMC. The show stars Dominic Cooper as a preacher turned criminal named Jesse Custer, Ruth Negga as Jesse’s crazy-ass on again, off again, homicidal outlaw girlfriend Tulip, and Joseph Gilgun as the Irish vampire Cassidy. Together, they’re on a road trip across the United States to find God, who’s gone missing from Heaven.
Last season followed the trio of Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy as they began an odyssey that brought them to New Orleans, the last known whereabouts of God, who happens to be a huge fan of jazz. This season, the quest will lead the trio to a Louisiana plantation called Angelville, the place where Jesse was raised, which he’s been avoiding his whole life. Of course, still on their tail is the Saint of Killers, the Angel of Death hired to collect their heads.
It looks like we can expect the same brand of darkly amusing, wacky, violent, irreverent and ironically iconoclastic satire the series is known for, cast members Dominic Cooper and Joseph Gilgun affirm that the series is upping the ante regarding irreverent ultraviolence. It should make for a marvelous season as Preacher looks to adopt the “Until the End of the World” comic book storyline while pushing further down its rabbit hole of surreal debauchery and mysticism.
Here’s the official season three synopsis: In Season 3, Jesse Custer’s quest for God takes him back to the place he’s been avoiding his whole life: home. Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy return to Angelville, the Louisiana Plantation where Jesse was raised, and find old grudges and deadly obligations await them. With the help of his friends — and a few enemies, Jesse will need to escape his past, because the future of the world depends on it.
Just like the two that preceded it, season three includes a memorable cast of characters, some new and some we are already acquainted with more than we might prefer. The Preacher Season 3 trailer provides the first look at Gran’ma (Betty Buckley), the spellcasting matron of Jesse’s former family, who appears willing to help heal Tulip, likely for a price that, for Jesse, is far costlier than currency. We get introduced to Gran’ma’s enforcers, Jody (Jesse Childs), a belligerent figure from Jesse’s childhood and Colin Cunningham as TC.
Also, the new season introduces Allfather D’Aronique Jonny Coyne), and Liz McGeever will play Christina, along with Adam Crosadell as Eccarius, a 350-year-old vampire, and Prema Cruz as Madame Boyd. Season 3 also features the return of Hitler himself (Noah Taylor).
Preacher Season 3 is set to premiere Sunday, June 24 at 10/9c on AMC, which kicks off a 10-episode season.
