Um, I'll resist saying that this is really a Never Ending Story. Sorry, just couldn't help myself.

This fantasy tale drags incredibly despite its relatively short running time. The movie makes a point about people not bothering with reading any more and going to the movies instead where they are not required to use all their creative and intellectual facilities. Sort of a self-defeatist philosophy for a movie to take if you know what I mean. Kids seem to like it though.

Followed by a sequel The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter in 1990 and The NeverEnding Story III in 1994.
