Peter Jackson’s Mortal Engines has finally released its first full trailer, providing us with our best look yet at the predator cities. We get introduced to the mega-predator city of London, headed by Thaddeus Valentine (Hugo Weaving), and It’s a steampunk-palooza, with tons of moving parts and ironwork. It’s a mammoth, and Weaving’s Valentine apparently has a big enough ego and the attitude to run it.
Based on Philip Reeve’s celebrated 2001 steampunk novel of the same name, Mortal Engines is set thousands of years after a cataclysmic event destroyed civilization, leaving the remnants of humanity to rebuild. Now gargantuan cities roam the world, preying on smaller towns. Against that backdrop, Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan) must fight for survival after he encounters the fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). The two forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.
Directed by Christian Rivers from a script by Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippas Boyen, Mortal Engines stars Robert Sheehan as Tom Natsworthy, Hera Hilmar as Hester Shaw, Stephen Lang as Chrysler Peavy, Hugo Weaving as Thaddeus Valentine, Colin Salmon as Chudleigh Pomeroy and Ronan Raftery as Bevis Pod. The film opens Dec. 14.
