KRULL

STARRING: Ken Marshall, Lysette Anthony, Freddie Jones, Francesca Annis, David Battley,  Liam Neeson, Robbie Coltrane

1983, 117 Minutes, Directed by: Peter Yates

Not even the presence of several almost legendary British special effects wizards and a big budget can save this plodding fantasy tale, about a young prince who has to save his princess and his kingdom in the process, from being spectacularly unengaging.

A sense of humour and fun would have helped this dull and predictable mixture of Star Wars and Excalibur featuring ancient wizards, unfunny bungling magicians, small kids in Robin Hood-type outfits and bearded princes with vertically striped (always slimming!) tights - but alas!

You'd be better off seeing The Princess Bride again and it is doubtful whether even small children would be entertained by Krull . . .
