HBO has released what it describes as the ‘final’ trailer for Watchmen, Damon Lindelof‘s adaptation of the groundbreaking comic book series by writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons. Both surreal and very, very intriguing it appears the cast of n characters are at a crossroads in their lives having to do with a call to war and choosing sides. The trailer, that uses both slick stylish visuals and ironic humor to introduce the series is an effective one; unquestionably intended to create curiosity and a need to know more. It sure worked on me in that regard. This has the look of a legendary series.

Here’s what the synopsis looks like: Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, this drama series from executive producer Damon Lindelof embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name while attempting to break new ground of its own.

Developed by Damon Lindelof, HBO’s Watchmen stars Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tom Mison, James Wolk, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith and Adelynn Spoon. The series will premiere Oct. 20.
