GREMLINS

STARRING: Zach Gallighan, Hoyt Axton, Frances Lee MaCain, Phoebe Cates, Polly Holliday, Scott Brady

1984, 111 Minutes, Directed by: Joe Dante

Description: A man buys a Mogwai as a Christmas present for his son. The young boy is told to keep the pet away from water, out of the light and never to feed it after midnight. Inadvertently, the creature is dampened and almost instantly, produces half a dozen furry replicas of itself --which continue to multiply and turn the small town upside-down.

Some moments of delicious black humor and satire in which a bunch of rather likeable small monsters (the "gremlins" of the title) goes on rampage. When the little tykes are off-screen things tend to lag a little since the human characters are rather boring in comparison.

Followed by a post-modern mish-mash of a sequel, Gremlins 2 - The New Batch, in 1990.
