If you are a fan of the over-the-top-so-violent-its-almost-comical and melodramatic, ensemble, comics-based-series Gotham like I am, you have been sitting on pins and needles waiting for news, any news, about the Batman-prequel series which is going into its fifth and final season. I suppose the first bit of relevant news is that the show’s fifth season will not begin until March of 2019 or thereabouts and will consist of 10 episodes.
Other items of note include that yes, Gordon will have his mustache in place to wrap up the series. On top of the villains that have been in the spotlight, like Jeremiah, R’as Al Ghul, Crazy Barbara, Mr. Freeze, Firefly, Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, Penguin, Riddler, and all the rest of the show’s bad guys (and girls). The fifth season is also introducing some new, hitherto unseen on this how, classic Batman villains that include Scarface and the Ventriloquist, Lady Shiva, The Mutant Gang, Bane, and others. Rumor has it there’s also the strong possibility of an appearance by none other than Harley Quinn in the show’s final season.
According to the trailer not much has changed in Gotham City since we last visited, its just as bleak, dark, and dismal and still marinating in its felonious juices. The trailer spends most of its time highlighting the show’s iconic moments that got us here to set the tone about how dire the situation is and saves a fraction near its completion in an attempt to show us things are even worse now.
Gotham is a terrific little series that did what many said could not be done; a Batman series without Batman. The show features an ensemble cast that features – Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue, David Mazouz, Zabryna Guevara, Sean Pertwee, Robin Lord Taylor, Erin Richards, Camren Bicondova, Cory Michael Smith, Morena Baccarin, James Frain, Jessica Lucas, Chris Chalk, Drew Powell, and many others.
