STARRING: Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, Oliver Platt, Kimberley Scott

1990, 105 Minutes, Directed by: Joel Schumacher

Description: What if you could stop your heart to simulate a temporary death, and then be revived so you could describe your near-death experience to others? The mysteries of life--and the afterlife--compel five medical students (Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, Oliver Platt) to experiment with their own mortality, and what they discover has unsettling psychological implications.

Director Joel Schumacher reveals his obsession with the glossy and superficial in this tale about a group of medical students who devise clinical deaths to experience what the afterlife would be like.

Possibly interesting stuff is ruined by Schumacher's predilection for pop psychology and his concern with close up shots of the beautiful people starring in his movie. This fixation with surface appearances would later make Batman Forever the bomb it was . . .
