Fantasy Magazone #65
Fantasy Magazine is a digital magazine that focuses on the fantasy genre. Within these pages, you will find fantasy of all types —dark fantasy, contemporary urban tales, surrealism, magical realism, science fantasy, high fantasy, folktales…and everything in between.
I want to start by saying this is a new experience for me, I’ve never read an electronic magazine before, I’m happy to say I will definitely be reading more in the future. Now, let’s take a moment to enjoy the amazing art on the cover! I love this cover so much.
The Code for Everything by McKinley Valentine was an enormously entertaining story. The ending was surprising and unexpected, but it worked! I would like to see this worked into a full length book.
Man vs. Bomb by M. Shaw had me confused at first. The more I read the clearer it became. Somehow deer had taken over the world and were punishing humans. This is another short that could make a great book, I would love to know how the world ended up like that.
Arenous by Hal Y. Zhang- Sarah has a problem that the doctor shrugs off as nothing more than dandruff, a doctor not listening… definitely not a stretch of the imagination there. But it isn’t just dandruff, it’s sand. This story pulled me in instantly, the descriptions brought it to life.
Dragonslayer by Priya Chand is a cool little poem, I’m not much into poetry but I really liked this one. Prince Charming wasn’t expecting that one, I actually laughed at the ending.
In the Interview section there is an interview with author Charles Yu, I have never read his books but I’m interested in checking them out. In the Author Spotlight we hear from M. Shaw and Hal Y. Zhang about their stories within these pages. I was delighted to see M. Shaw is working on more in the “theme” of Man vs. Bomb. I’m adding both of these authors to my “keep an eye on” list. I’ve always liked behind the scenes looks at authors and interviews are a great way to learn new things about authors and their books.
Overall this is a great e-zine that I definitely recommend to any fansty lover, there is something in this e-zine for all different tastes. I look forward to reading more of these e-zines in the future, and definitely looking into others.
Our Score: 90 out of 100
