Despite the format change and more risqué jokes, The Film Crew might as well be episodes of the cult Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) television show. Not only does it reunite Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett - that show's three stars from its Sci-Fi Channel years - but it rehashes their whole ridiculing bad movies shtick again.

The movie in this case is Wild Women of Wongo, a camp comedy that is pretty much enjoyable in its own goofy badness even without the wise cracks of the MST3K team, ach, I mean the Film Crew. There are two tribes on the tropical island of Wongo: in one tribe ugly men have beautiful women and in the other good-looking men have ugly women. (We have always felt sorry for the actors playing the supposedly ugly people in this movie - however did the film-makers convince them to star in it?)

What differentiates The Film Crew from older MST3K episodes is that the jokes are more ribald in nature this time around and the sexual innuendoes often fly, ahem, wild in Wild Women of Wongo. The pop cultural references are as always spot on and more up-to-date (in older MST3K episodes from the 1990s a lot have lapsed into obscurity.) The tone is however light-hearted and never mean-spirited.

THE DISC: Not much in the line of extras but be sure to check out Make the Film Crew Dance and The Film Crew Says Goodbye Wongo-style after viewing the movie for more general goofiness.

WORTH IT? Yes.

RECOMMENDATION: MST3K fans looking for fresh material should check out Wild Women of Wongo. Newbies are advised to start with older MST3K episodes or box sets, but Wild Women of Wongo isn't bad at all.
