Quick - how many versions of this movie are there? First, there's the original 1977 version, then the so-called Special Edition and now there's this one. (There's also a version edited for TV showings that features all existing footage.) This "Collector's Edition" features footage from both versions, but is ultimately closer to the original movie because it leaves out all superfluous footage of the interior of the UFO inserted at the end of the Special Edition. But since this disc contains all the footage used (and some never used) you can make up your own mind as to which version is the best.

The second disc contains a "making of" documentary that is almost as long as the movie itself. Some people have complained about the lack of a director's commentary, but really folks! This documentary tells you more than you probably ever wanted to know about this seminal movie . . .

WORTH IT? Yes.

RECOMMENDATION: Buy it!
