Area 51 TV Series
New sci-fi series by Walking Dead producer . . .
Gale Anne Hurd, former missus of James Cameron and also producer on Terminator and Aliens, has bought the rights to a book titled Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base by Annie Jacobsen.
According to its jacket blurb the author had “exclusive access to nineteen men who served the [top secret Area 51] base proudly and secretly for decades and unprecedented access to fifty-five additional military and intelligence personnel, scientists, pilots, and engineers linked to the secret base, thirty-two of whom lived and worked there for extended periods.”
In her book, Jacobsen “shows us what has really gone on in the Nevada desert, from testing nuclear weapons to building super-secret, supersonic jets to pursuing the War on Terror.”
One Amazon.com reviewer with an engineering background called it “absolute trash, riddled with mistakes and outright lunacy” – which means it is probably for the best then that Hurd intends to make it into an hour-long dramatic TV show instead of a documentary.
According to Dark Horizons the planned series “will follow two men working on the base who are thrust into danger when they uncover secrets that the government will protect at any cost. Unlike its portrayals as a base holding alien technology in many sci-fi shows, this series will focus on the actual technology being developed and tested in Nevada.”
Sounds like Eureka meets The X-Files to us . . .
