You should also bear in mind that, in the new film, when Mr Scott was "retrieved" by Spock and Kirk from the outpost, he mentioned having been on nothing more than a diet of ration packs. As for the dress code, it quite closely resembles the uniforms of the original series. In fact in many instances the female crew members uniforms were even more revealing than the new Uhura's.
