Get your latest Star Trek spoilers here while they’re fresh! Villain confirmed! Nimoy to return? And more!

According to internet sources “close” to J.J. Abrams we know the following about J.J. Abrams’ upcoming sequel to his 2009 Star Trek reboot:

a.) Leonard Nimoy will return as Spock (or Spock Prime if you like) despite his retirement from acting. (The actor recently let slip on CNN that he was in talks with J.J. Abrams about returning.)

b.) The villain will be Khan Noonien Singh who was originally played by Ricardo Montalban in the 1960s first season Star Trek episode, Space Seed, and 1982’s Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan. The genetically modified villain will be played by Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch. The movie’s climax will apparently involve a mano-a-mano showdown between Kirk and Khan in high-tech space suits. The movie will however not be a rehash of the original 1960s episode.

c.) After their absence from the first movie, the Klingons will make an appearance in this one.

Shooting on the Star Trek sequel wraps in two weeks. The movie has a May 17th, 2013 release date. It stars Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban and John Cho. Star Trek 2 is directed by J.J. Abrams.

    Sounds gay already.

  • What?

If only we could all enjoy the same mindless drivel that Igitwams seems to enjoy…in addition, 1989 called and told me he is homophobic as well.

totaly stupid. the strength of the original movie franchise is james horners/goldsmiths score (esp star trek II & III’s take on jerry goldsmiths score). removing that from the star trek franchise is what collapsed star trek movies in my opinion (star trek first contact being the only decent tng movie while the series itself had the music). star trek now is the micheal baying of star trek, star trek for dumb jocks. star trek will not be socialy relevant as the 60s and 80s version were in the current outing. the score for 2009 was god awful, i hear thier going to put in insurrections score (also god awful). both star trek and star wars suck now as they originaly were both semi dark comedies utitlizing allegoric storytelling and humor sarcasm instead of emo action flicks.

Why would JJ want to re-hash Khan when Wrath of Khan was as good a movie (sequel or otherwise) that there has ever been? Seriously, no one could come up with something fresh?

what planet did you get this bull shit from klingons are not making an appearance and the baddie is a home grown baddie within the federation see msn today 05/07/12  you cant have khan anywat as the time line is now screwed up kirk never comes across khan and dumps him on one of the seti alpha planets.. as chekov is serving on the enterprise and not the reliant.

If I understand what you are saying then you have 2 major flaws

1 Kahn was launched into deep space long befoe Kirk or his dad were even alive.
2 Kirk encountered Kahn when Chekov was on the enterprise (old series) and refound him years later after he had been transfered to the Defiant.

Might wanna rewatch that episode and Star Trek II: Wrath of Kahn
