Get your latest Star Trek spoilers here while they’re fresh! Villain confirmed! Nimoy to return? And more!

According to internet sources “close” to J.J. Abrams we know the following about J.J. Abrams’ upcoming sequel to his 2009 Star Trek reboot:

a.) Leonard Nimoy will return as Spock (or Spock Prime if you like) despite his retirement from acting. (The actor recently let slip on CNN that he was in talks with J.J. Abrams about returning.)

b.) The villain will be Khan Noonien Singh who was originally played by Ricardo Montalban in the 1960s first season Star Trek episode, Space Seed, and 1982’s Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan. The genetically modified villain will be played by Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch. The movie’s climax will apparently involve a mano-a-mano showdown between Kirk and Khan in high-tech space suits. The movie will however not be a rehash of the original 1960s episode.

c.) After their absence from the first movie, the Klingons will make an appearance in this one.

Shooting on the Star Trek sequel wraps in two weeks. The movie has a May 17th, 2013 release date. It stars Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban and John Cho. Star Trek 2 is directed by J.J. Abrams.
