Plus release date confirmed . . .

With Sony Pictures moving Singularity (the upcoming Roland Emmerich sci-fi flick) from May 17, 2013 to November 1, 2013, Paramount saw a gap and moved Star Trek 2 to that date.

Despite earlier misgivings by director J.J. Abrams about the format, the new Trek movie will be in 3D although it is uncertain at this time whether the movie will be shot in 3D or only converted to the format in post-production.

Principal cast members such as Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and others are expected to return for the sequel. Rumors also have it that Abrams has been scouting for locations in Hawaii that would pass for a jungle planet (cheapskate! Why can’t he find a real jungle planet to film in?).

So there you have it: Star Trek 2 is coming at ya in 3D on May 17, 2013.
