Wot?! No singing dwarves?!

Snow White and the Huntsman movie posterRemember how Hollywood sometimes manages to churn out two very similar movies in the same year such as for example the two Earth-about-to-get-hit-by-an-asteroid flicks in 1998 (Armageddon and Deep Impact) and the two computer-animated-flicks-about-bugs, also in 1998 (A Bug’s Life and Antz)?

Well, 2012 is going to see two “re-imaginings” of the familiar Snow White fairy tale, namely Snow White and the Huntsmen starring that expressionless chick from Twilight and Charlize Theron and Mirror, Mirror by the director of Immortals, now showing in cinemas.

Snow White and the Huntsman also stars Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Stephen Graham, Ray Winstone, Lily Cole, Sam Spruell, Liberty Ross, and Noah Huntley.  The director is Rupert Sanders and the writer is Evan Daugherty.

Release date is June 1, 2012. (Mirror, Mirror will pre-empt it at the box office with an earlier release date of16 March.

The plot? In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen. Not a single singing dwarf in sight!
