Seven years after his timetraveling and braintwisting debut known as Primer, Shane Carruth returns to Chicago once more to shoot his next movie called Upstream Color. Which is good news, and bad news.

Good news is, that after a brief stint in the Visual Effects Department of Rian Johnson’s upcoming Looper, Shane Carruth is back on track. The bad news: This is totally unrelated to the much rumored A Topiary, which plot synopis was described as “an abstract arthouse take on Pokemon” once.

Even worse: it might not even be scifi, since it’s listed as romance/drama/thriller.

So it seems, that A Topiary is still stuck in Development Hell, and we will have to settle for something more “conventional” from the Primer Director for the time being. But with a guy like Shane Carruth there is still a good chance that even a conventional story might turn out rather unconventional…
