Batman is human and has no superpowers and he is a vigilante superhero too. Batman has also always been personified as a moody, emotional, brooding, dark character; a key aspect of his character is his retreat from the real world and his use of "Batman" as his escape or method of dealing with what he considers the problems of the world. He is by design a dark, complex character, which lends perfectly to the method of the Dark Knight film. On the other hand, Superman does have superpowers and that's a key aspect of his character and any way you try and play that tends to the fantastical and less real. Superman also is not a viiglante but a praised and adored superhero. An icon and role model of his world.  I personally just think it willl be a bit difficult to try and "edgy up" Superman when his image is all but edgy. He is definition of being mainstream, beloved superhero. Perhaps they could play a "price of power and fame" kind of story with Superman. Those tend to do well with his characters. I find the best Superman stories are when his powers and good nature are his weakness and not his strength. just my opinion..maybe im wrong too.
