Kristen Stewart Offered Akira Role
Expressionless Girl (TM) is offered role in live action remake of Japanese anime classic . . .
Actress Kristen Stewart, who will soon be seen again as Bella in the latest Twilight movie Breaking Dawn Part I, has apparently been offered the role of Kei in the planned live action remake of the 1980s anime classic Akira.
No word as yet on whether she has accepted the role or not.
In the original movie Kei is a psychic medium who falls in love with Kaneda, the motorbike gang hero who will be played by Garrett Hedlund of Tron Legacy fame.
Action has been apparently moved from “New Tokyo” to “New Manhattan” for the remake so that the studio can cast American instead of Japanese stars, although that still doesn’t explain why the characters still have Japanese names such as Kaneda, Kei or Tetsuo not to mention the movie’s title . . .
French advertisement director Jaume Collet-Serra will be directing from a screenplay by Albert Torres and Steve Kloves.
