Will Pixar be involved?
Last week Marvel Studios confirmed that the next Marvel superheroes to hit the big screen will be the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Now that Marvel has run out of better known characters such as Captain America and Thor to film, it is only obvious that they would give one of their more obscure titles a shot. (Their best-known characters such as Fantastic Four and Spider-man are licensed to other studios.)
The Guardians have been around for as long ago as 1969 when they were created by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan. They were however rebooted by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning in 2008 and it is this reboot the upcoming movie will be based on. The lineup includes Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon and Gamora.
Apparently the movie will be animated and somehow tie-in with the upcoming Avengers 2. The plot will involves a group of aliens – the titular guardians – travelling to Earth to protect it from alien race known as the Bardoon.
Release date is August 1, 2014.
The lineup includes a character known as Rocket Raccoon, which has already lead some Internet fans to speculate whether he (it?) might be Marvel’s answer to Jar Jar Binks.
It is unknown at this stage whether Pixar will be involved in any way. No director or stars have been announced.
