Script finished and project seeking director . . .
Then get your CV ready because Marvel Studios has announced that Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer have finished the screenplay for a Doctor Strange movie and they are now looking for a director.
Okay, that Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer worked on the Conan the Barbarian remake as well as A Sound of Thunder doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, but we’re sure that you can hammer the script into shape should you get the job as director.
Don’t know who Doctor Strange is? Well, the character was created in 1963 by Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko. Apparently the movie will be about a New York surgeon who gains psychic powers such as telepathy, teleportation, and astral projection following a car crash.
Back in the ‘Sixties college student types dug Ditko’s psychedelic and off-beat art work, but the character doesn’t exactly have the same brand recognition of any of the A-list or even B-list Stan Lee superheroes such as Spider-man and the Fantastic Four, so don’t expect too big a budget. Doctor Strange will probably square off against some other supernatural being (in one best-selling comic he fought Dracula himself).
A 2013 release date is envisaged, but don’t put it in your day planner quite yet: talk about a Doctor Strange flick has been doing the rounds since 2008 and at one point Patrick Dempsey (Enchanted, Grey’s Anatomy) was lobbying to play the role . . .
If you do however get the job of directing a Doctor Strange movie, be sure to keep the character’s iconic camp costume (see pic) – otherwise we wouldn’t go see it . . .
