Actor Signs on for Apes Sequel

Motion capture actor Andy Serkis to appear as alpha ape Caesar in at least one sequel . . .

Not only has 20^th Century Fox signed on the actor, but they also picked up sequel options for Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt and screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver whose initial deals included options for follow-ups.

It is unsure whether any of the other cast members will return.

Word has it that 20^th Century Fox wants to push for an Oscar for Serkis’ acting in Apes. Serkis has made a living doing motion capture performances as King Kong in Peter Jackson’s remake and as Gollum in Lord of the Rings amongst  others. More recently the actor also appears in The Adventures of Tintin.

Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark will produce the as yet untitled Planet of the Apes movie.  No release date has been set.
