BACK TO THE FUTURE

STARRING: Michael J Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson, Claudia Wells, Thomas F. Wilson

1985, 116 minutes, Directed by: Robert Zemeckis

Description: What would it be like to meet your parents in their youth? Billed as a special-effects comedy, this imaginative film (the top box-office smash of 1985) has high schooler Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox, during the height of his TV success) being catapulted back to the '50s where he sees his parents in their teens, and accidentally changes the history of how Mom and Dad met. - Amazon.com

Science fiction is so infused into popular culture that few people think of the Back To The Future movies as science fiction, but with its tales of traveling back into time it is simply nothing else. Okay, a comedy with a sci-fi theme then!

In this one Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) is caught in the 1950s while Doc (over-the-top Christopher Lloyd) whose souped-up De Lorean is the time machine tries to get him back to the present. Or 1985 at least.

Good clean family fun even as the ultimate icky Oedipal fantasy of traveling into time and meeting your mother and having her fall in love with you is realized. But don't worry: the movie plays it as "Imagine what it would be like to meet your parents when they were your age?"  No kinky stuff so you can let your kids watch this with a clear conscience . . .

Followed by two sequels, namely Back to the Future Part II and Part III.
