Disney offers us our first look at author Eoin Colfer’s 12-year-old criminal mastermind with the release of the teaser trailer for Artemis Fowl. With the footage arrives the first poster.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the fantasy adventure adapts the first novel in Colfer’s bestselling series about a boy genius, the latest in a long line of criminal masterminds, who takes on a hidden race of fairies in hopes of restoring his family fortune and finding his missing father.

The first footage is very much a tease, with voiceover by Judi Dench as LEPrecon Commander Root, who warns of the danger to fairies posed by human greed, and warns Artemis (Ferdia Shaw) of the threat of what he seeks.

The synopsis looks like this:

Directed by Kenneth Branagh and based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer, ARTEMIS FOWL follows 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.

Arriving Aug. 9, 2019, director Kenneth Branagh’s Artemis Fowl stars Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Tamara Smart, Nonzo Anozie, with Josh Gad and Judi Dench.
