In the upcoming sci-fi comedy Starship
Dave a crew of tiny aliens operate a spaceship that has a human form
(Eddie Murphy). While trying to save their planet from destruction, the
aliens encounter a new problem, as their ship becomes smitten with an
Earth woman (Elizabeth Banks).
The last time Murphy tried his hand at sci-fi it was the box office
disaster The Adventures of Pluto Nash. Since then Murphy has scored
hits with low-brow comedies in which he gets to wear prosthetic “fat
suits” such as the Nutty Professor and Norbit.
Still, Starship Dave has a cool concept – who can ever forget
those Calvin & Hobbes cartoons that exploited the idea? – and with a
killer script it just might be the unexpected comedy hit of 2008. That is,
if Murphy can refrain from telling fat jokes . . .
Note: This movie's title has been changed from the intriguing
Starship Dave to the bland, rent-it-on-DVD-one-night Meet Dave.
