It’s finally here. The first trailer for James Wan‘s Aquaman debuted online today, and it’s an action-packed visually remarkable ride. The trailer conveys the idea that the film begins as an origin type story, depicting the birth and childhood of the eponymous character, but soon gives way to his life as an adult Aqua-bro being introduced to his true destiny in a whole different world beneath the waves in a fantastic underwater fantasy. The trailer left me with little doubt this film holds lots of promise to be an exciting and entertaining entry into the superhero genre and may be the film that, along with Wonder Woman, that redeems the DCU.
The trailer also introduces the other characters that populate the movie’s narrative including the film’s villains, and of course, the denizens of the deep.
Starring Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master, and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Aquaman opens December 21, 2018.
