At the end of the season (or series) finale of Marvel’s Inhumans, the first trailer for the fifth season of Agents of SHIELD debuted, and it looks bonkers.
Say what you want about Agents Of Shield, there’s no denying the show has always been a consistently high-quality science fiction, mystery, action and adventure series. Now, with the Premiere of the season 5 trailer comes the revelation the agents head to outer space for more of their signature approach to genre entertainment. Like season 4, season 5 gets structured into several large story arcs, and at least the first one is entirely in space as hinted at with the season 4 finale cliffhanger.
Now having been transported to the final frontier, our heroes soon find themselves on a space station dealing with some evil Kree, a man in a flashy helmet, and bipedal alien creatures.
The latter in particular are worth noting because they appear to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of the Brood. An insectoid race introduced in 1982 by co-creators Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum in Uncanny X-Men #155, the Brood exhibits a hive mentality and follow the rule of their queen — which is good for them, but bad for everyone else.
Though the Brood are typically in the X-Men corner of Marvel, that doesn’t necessarily exclude them from being used in the MCU — after all, the Skrulls are a Fantastic Four mainstay, and they’re going to be significant players in the Captain Marvel film. Whoever the aliens prove to be, there’s one thing we know for sure: Mack certainly doesn’t want the team to split up while looking for it.
Premiering Dec. 1 on ABC, with a two-hour event, the fifth season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Ian De Caestecker, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, Elizabeth Henstridge, Nick Blood, Jeff Ward, Eve Harlow, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Coy Stewart.
